Wageningen, the Netherlands

The CURIOSOIL Project invites artists from across Europe, regardless of their discipline or level, to apply for a unique opportunity to create artwork inspired by soil. Join the CURIOSOIL Artathon first session on 5 June 2025 in Wageningen, the Netherlands, for an introduction and to kick-start the co-creation process.

Participation is limited to 25 professional and amateur artists. Following the event on 5 June, concepts of artworks can be submitted until 30 June 2025. A maximum of eight artists will be shortlisted from the proposed concepts. On 4 July, the second day of the Artathon, the shortlisted artists will present their concepts, after which a final selection of up to four artists will be invited to produce their proposed art between 5 July and 28 November 2025. Each selected artist will receive funding of up to €5,000 to cover production costs, including materials and time. If fewer than four artists are chosen, additional funding may be provided.

Artists from all disciplines, including visual arts, music, dance, video, installation and sculpture, are invited to submit concept proposals that creatively highlight the importance of soil. The goal is to ignite curiosity, inspire reflection and reconnect people with this vital yet often overlooked element of life.

The final artworks will be showcased in the Interactive Soil Exhibition at the ISRIC World Soil Museum in Wageningen in 2026, and then at the Fábrica Centro Ciência Viva in Aveiro, Portugal, in 2027. They will then go on tour to other locations in Europe.

The project’s mission is to spark curiosity about soil and foster a deeper connection between people and the ground beneath their feet. In line with the EU Mission: A Soil Deal for Europe, the project aims to transform the way soil is valued, perceived, taught and discussed across Europe.
