A pedologist (not to be confused with a podologist) is a specialist in the study of soils. The terms pedologist and pedology derive from the Greek word “pedon“, meaning “ground” or “earth.” Pedologists are one category of soil scientists; their primary focus is on the development and transformation of soil over time, unlike edaphologists, who study how soil supports living organisms.
