Back to Community of Practice

Andreas Pohl

Andreas Pohl is a German-born maritime professional turned permaculture educator and soil advocate based in Transylvania, Romania. After years as a nautical officer in global trade, his final voyage aboard the sailing cargo vessel Avontuur led him to a community living by ecological values and inspired his shift toward regenerative land-based living.

In 2016, inspired by the rich soils and traditions of his wife Ioana’s ancestral village in the Carpathian Mountains, he co-founded După Gard in Posaga de Jos. The project focuses on permaculture, agroecology, and community education through workshops, Erasmus+ trainings, and ESC volunteer programs, with his family homestead serving as a living learning site.

As a permaculture educator and Romania’s CoP leader in the CURIOSOIL project, Andreas promotes soil literacy through forest gardens, syntropic farming, and perennial systems resilient to climate extremes. He completed his Permaculture Design Course in 2021 and is pursuing a Diploma in Applied Permaculture with the German Permakultur Institute, mentoring volunteers and young professionals along the way.
