Back to Community of Practice

Armando Cruz

Armando is Project CurioSoil’s Community of Practice leader for Portugal, and he founded a coffee grounds collection initiative called Horta Harmonia in 2021. He restored a nearly two-decade dormant plot of land – using regenerative practices – where he now grows most of his own food. Though he works in agroecology, regenerative agriculture, and nature conservation, Armando graduated with honors for both his Bachelors in Physical Education and Health and his Master’s in Exercise Science. Armando has led actions addressing environmental issues and advocating for human and non-human animals’ rights for over 10 years. He has extensive managerial experience in community nutrition education and team supervision in one of the largest global retailers. More recently and more significantly, Armando has taken Dr. Elaine’s Soil Foodweb school’s courses, and acquired multiple certifications in sustainable agriculture, regenerative practices in agriculture, agroecology, nature-based solutions for disaster and climate resilience with the United Nations. Armando has also taken masterclasses, participated in numerous courses, European projects and has attended and lectured at conferences on soil health, ecosystem conservation and regeneration, composting, and nutrition. His ultimate goal is to promote and develop systems of positive ecological and social impact.
